Well I discovered a new trick in the kitchen last night while making dinner. Ok, so some of you may not know this trick and will be enlightened. Others will be like duh, I've done that for years (if this is you, just humor me, ok?)
I buy the Texas Garlic Toast, you know the stuff that is pre-sliced, usually 8 in a box. I have found this is more economical and works better for our family. I used to hate buying a huge loaf and it going to wasted because we are a small family. I pull out how many pieces we are going to eat with our Italian meal (did I mention I love breads and Italian food?)
Anyway, for the trick, I read on the back you can put the bread in a skillet on high heat and flip it 2-3 minutes on each side. You just want to make sure your skillet is nice and hot before you put the bread on and you want to watch it carefully so it doesn't burn.
I love doing this. It is so much faster than waiting to for my oven to heat up. . .
It's one thing if your oven is already on, but on a hot summer day who wants to heat up the whole house. Now, I know some of you make your own breads, I admire you, but for me that is just not a reality at this point (I would get bread made, but it would be at the expense of laundry and vacuuming, if you know what I mean).
Also, my in-laws came 2 weeks ago and they took me out for an early birthday dinner. We went to a cute Italian restaurant called Bravo. It was beautiful atmosphere and the food (including the bread with the dipping oil) was delicious.
So, how about you? Have you stumbled upon a tip in the kitchen recently? Maybe you don't have great culinary skills, do you have a favorite Italian restaurant?
I hope to post pictures before I leave for NJ on Saturday! We have been busy and have pictures to prove it.

Those Texas Toasts are super yummy! We also like to take whatever bread we happen to have around the house and spread with butter, then sprinkle with a bit of garlic salt. YUM!
We use to get that Texas toast when it was just the two of us eating as well. Now we get the Walmart Garlic bread. It is in the bakery and is baked fresh and pre garlicked and buttered and we just put it in the oven. But that is not my new kitchen idea. My idea is to make cookie dough and freeze it and then when the "urge" comes just make however many you need. That way you always have fresh cookies. It is also nice to have for drop in company. My only problem with this is that I end up eating the frozen dough and it never becomes a cookie. Looks like I need to learn self control.
This is just the first thing that came to mind . . . homemade lemonade is just the best and I just made some last night. Real easy! (which I love!) I cup lemon juice, I cup sugar (I know, I know, but at least it isn't as much as sweet ice tea!!) and 2 quarts water! Voila! Lemonade! It tastes better than the packaged stuff too!
Thanks for the tip about the Texas Toast!
This trick I just learned from a friend on my birthday 2 weeks ago. We were cutting up onions for the hamburgers, and of course, your hands absorb the smell. She told me that in order to get the smell of the onions off your hands, as you wash them with soap, rub them over the faucet or sides of the sink (if they are stainless steel). This kills 2 birds with one stone... for some reason the stainless steel will absorb the odor off your hands, and your faucet/sink gets cleaned in the process! :-)
